i tot i really needed to blog tonight before i sleep.
This trip was a life experience, a crash course on "What Real World is".
ZX, i tot i might be able to relate this to your problem, but i'll just briefly say what i learnt.
The trip and all was good, we did what was necessary, and couldn't help feeling upset about the devestation and at the same time, maintaining our motivation to help humanity. However, the indonesian organisers were total blood sucking creatures. They claim that there are your frens, they will help you to book a hotel, prepare breakfast, get ready transport, lend us cooking utensils--- all for the purpose of helping the acehnes rebuild their confidence to get on with their lives.
but they turned their back against us. they conspired with the hotel owner, demanded for money, overcharged us for the hotel and use of their facilities and even held our luggages for ransom.
so we decided to pull out from the project and leave aceh asap without telling them. because if we tell them that we want to leave, they won't have the chance to extort money from us, and may end up taking some of us hostage at gunpoint.
how disappointing, how disgusting, how disdainful. super scorny.
so we decided to have our "Operation Unaccompanied Baggage" where we told the indonesians that we will be checking in our luggages as Unaccompanied Baggage, and that we will leave for Singapore only 1 day later. only 5 of us, including myself was involved. it was highly confidential, i cannot even tell my best fren on the trip. we reached the airport at 11am plus, and had to wait till 2pm when the rest would be coming to join us to board the earliest flight back.
somehow, the indonesians saw through our operations. they waited at the airport entrance for the rest for 3 whole hours. damn smart, damn scheming. damn them man.
anyway, it was really an experience. besides horrible people like that, i aso got to know people who are abit lunatic, one who's in for selfish purposes, one who only cares about money, yet on the other hand, i see people who are strong, compassionate, pure and motivated.
From the tsunami survivors, i found strength and courage in them; from the orphans, i found pureness and innocence; from my peers, i found more understanding of myself; from the very terok indos, i realise how laid back we can be, as if extremely naive to the real world.
i enjoyed this trip better than the previous fews.
i miss aceh already.
